Ideas for temporary water situation

How many chicks? Maybe you can make a separate brooder for them made out of big cardboard boxes till the move. We have very similar weather/climate. I find it easier to brood by adding extra rooms (boxes) if I can’t move them out right away.

Right now we have 18 chicks that are about 3 days old that we have separate then we also have 12 chicks that are about 3 weeks old that are in with the ducks and turkeys. We have a bunch of cardboard boxes from our move last year so I’m thinking that may be the route to go. Thank you!

Consider a paint roller tray as a pool. The graduated depth makes it easier for the ducklings to get out of the water. Also consider putting a piece of hardware cloth over a shallow baking pan, bending it over the edges and putting the waterer on top in the center so splashing gets collected in pan. You can build up bedding around the pan to help the ducklings get up to the water. If the waterer is too heavy for the hardware cloth, put a dish or other object underneath, inside of the pan, to support the waterer. Put bedding on top of hardware cloth to protect ducking feet.

That sounds like a good idea thank you. The paint roller pan would probably be better then the dog bowl. I guess I will do trial and error and see what works best

they don't really HAVE to have a pool you know right? They will outgrow the paint tray in a week. You could put them in your bathtub or sink for now too.

I personally use less spill water containers and let them swim outside, bathtub or sink depending on age a few times a week.

Oh yes I know that but my husband is adamant that they are not coming in the house. That’s why I’m asking this question. I know they will out grow the paint roller too but they will be moved outside with in 2 weeks so I just wanted ideas for right now

That’s what my husband has been looking up on doing too I just wasn’t sure on making a small one for now since they won’t be in the brooder to much longer

I just have a bunch of them with disposable liners because we have a lot of painting to do around here. I didn’t give my ducklings swimming water until they were about a month old and then I put them in three or four inches of water in the bathtub.

I think I may just make something out of a milk jug or pop bottle. I’m only doing this because they are getting the water everywhere right now. I feel like so much is being wasted

My guys didn't get swimming water till 6 weeks. They are doing fine.
