Ideas on making in a poop board in a small space

Thanks for your replies. I may have just had an epiphany, thanks to everyone's collective brainstorming help. Why am I putting straw in the coop if they just lay and sleep in there? I think I may just try laying down newspaper (with straw in the nest boxes of course) and just swap it out every week. Can't belive I didn't think of that before.

I have four standard size chickens. Only problem with running the roost the other way is they would have to pass under to access the nest boxes and I presume trapes a lot of pool into them.

Not if you had a dropping board. Of course you'd have to figure out if your four birds could fit on three ft. of roost. The far side could wall mount, and the door side could use a 45 degree support or something along those lines, for both the dropping board and the roost. It could butt up against, just over the nest boxes. And since the poop would be on the dropping board and not the floor, no tracking poop into the nest boxes...just an idea.

Try that and see how it works. We use newspaper in the cage trays for our parrots indoors, and I don't find the newspaper very absorbent. You might find you need to replace the newspaper in your coop more frequently than once a week to keep up with those wet cecal poops. Keeping chicken droppings dry is the key to keeping things from getting stinky.

How about a roll of craft paper hung high and run under a rod below. Time to change the paper just pull it out roll the dirty part up and cut it off. Then shut the door on the ragged edge to keep it in place. Craft paper would biodegrade for the compost pile same as newspaper.

Cool looking nesting boxes. What were they originally?

Stackable storage cubes with doors on them..

We were also having the problems of scooping up more straw/wood chips vs poop. We now put newspaper under the roost and right before they go to bed or after they are already up there and in the morning we just roll it up and put it into the composter. It's been working great and is much faster than scooping it up. We only have 4 chickens, so there isn't that much poo.
