Ideas to keep chickens from roosting on waterer

I have one of the Little Giant plastic waters with the screw top lid. I keep it outside in the run, and my chickens take turns hopping on top and sitting on the lid....thus pooping in the water basin below = nasty water in no time flat.

Any of you figure out a way to keep them from thinking it's a great place to sit?

You can buy a cone thing to put on top of it. It's plastic and pointy on the top so the chickens can't sit on it and it keep the feeder or waterer clean. Check a feed store or poultry supply catalog.

Plastic or hardware cloth or something fastened together into a funnel shape that fits on the top.
