Hi All. I am new to chicken keeping. I have 4 11 week old chickens raised from chicks in my garage. I have the six hen Eglu coop and enclosed run set in a 40 x 40 ft garden area surrounded by hardware cloth and heavy netting on the top (lots of hawks here in NC). So far so good. But I am having a lot of trouble with waterers.

I tried the bucket with the auto fill but the bucket is too big to handle easily and a lot of the water comes out when you try and turn it over.

I tried the Eglu waterer but it just fills up with dirt and leaves and they stand on it and poop.

I then got the 3 gallon Harris Farm waterer which seems to work fine but I do not understand how to make it auto fill. It has this red cap inside that you take off so the float fills but it also has the black plug in the botton. You have to loosen it to get the water to flow down but then you have to tighten it to stop the water. So confusing and really crap directions. Anyone else have this waterer? Thanks.
