around nine weeks ago, a friend of mine incubated chick eggs without knowing the breed of the eggs. they hatched six weeks ago, and she gave me three of them around three to four weeks ago. one of the chicks i have is much smaller than the rest, and is developing slower than the others. for context, i have not moved them outside yet due to the runt chick not being fully feathered. i take them outside and put them into a small cage so that they can peck around on the ground and tap into their instincts. this cage is NOT where they live because it is so small.

as you can see, this chick is much smaller than the others and is not ready to live outside. is this genetic or is there something wrong with it? also i’m not sure what breed it is.

If the eggs came from a backyard flock, then they are probably all mixed. The barred one is a cockerel, and is probably a barred rock or cuckoo Marans mix. The brown one is a pullet and looks to be a cream Legbar mix. The black one looks like a pullet so far but too young to be sure. It is maybe an Australorp mix.
