I lived in Anchorage in 1979-80.
I remember the excitement. Sometimes I wish I'd never left.

Imp- couldn't take the winter darkness.

My sons class has been watching it, and each one has been given a musher to follow. My son has even friended his musher on facebook. He really got into it.

For those who don't know, Lance Mackey is a cancer survivor, and he has won this 1,100 mile race four times in a row. The guy is superhuman awesome. He credits his dogs with giving him the will to win the battle against cancer. Just 10 days ago he finished second in the Yukon Quest another 1,000+ mile race. Some of the dogs running in this race also competed in that race. His dogs are as awesome a he is.
