Don't be upset. This is nature and beyond our control We pretty much must allow chickens to be chickens. If the rooster is mating her is usually means she is old enough. If the rooster/cockerel is bonkers, well, all bets are off. But, generally if a rooster is mating a pullet it simply means she is at the point of lay.

Whether he mates her or not, whether you even have a rooster or not, none of this is particularly influential on whether a hen goes broody. Most hatchery stock has had the broodiness bred out them. A hen that is broody isn't laying eggs so these months she takes off to brood means she isn't laying eggs. Hatcheries have incubators and cannot make money from hens that aren't laying.

Hope that helps.

I thought I had a pedifile rooster too.... Haha he started mating with some of mine around the same time and at 15 weeks some of them started laying eggs. I am new to this but everyone told me it would be around 20 weeks before they started laying. I guess the rooster knew best!!
