IF an egg broke inside her--how long?

Ok, so I had my girl inside for a couple of days, she was pecked and it appears that she had a shell break inside her and I have no idea if the pieces are still in there or not. She's usually a once a day layer and she hasn't laid for two days. But then again she was inside, probably stressed, etc. I put pine tar on her and put her back in with the others and so far not too many pecks on her poor little butt.

I haven't really palpated her to see if there are shells in there, but I did a little visual check and don't see anything obvious. If indeed she does have broken pieces in there, what are the chances they will come out? I'm not really prepared to flush her out or anything, that's a bit beyond my pet-chicken comfort zone. Plus I don't want to make things worse if that's not really the problem. How long should I wait to just "wait and see" before maybe I take her to the vet? She's eating, drinking, and behaving mostly normally, if a bit tired.

I am not a professional by any means but I remember reading something about their poop being different if an egg has broken inside. does her poop look normal?

poop seems totally normal.

If anything is left, there is a good chance that it will cause lots of problems. It can block other eggs which will end up rotting. If shell pieces are left inside it can cut her up inside. With all of this the biggest problem will end up being a major infection.

how old is she?? And sometimes a chicken just doesn't lay everyday. did she have an inside of an egg come out? then did a little package like-thing come out? let me know, i'll be replying soon!

She layed last night!! And it wasn't all bloody or anything, just normal egg for her, so I assume all is well. It took her by surprise though, i think, because she was going in and out of the henhouse, but the egg was laid on the ground in the run. That's totally unlike her. She hadn't layed for two days, so I assume it was like oh man, gotta do it NOW!!!
