Can I use a computer fan like I have heard somewhere and if so what size and how do you hook it up? Thanks.

Yes, you can use a computer fan. Mine is an 80mm and is working fantastic. You have to get a charger of some sort, cell phone or other small device charger. You have to strip the ends and hook black to black and red to red. I will find a link to a thread that explains it all!

Here's one!

Be sure to check the voltage of the fan. Some case fans plug directly into the motherboard and
could be 5V like mine. I've used case fans and processor fans. Just circulating the air is fine without
having a windstorm on the eggs.

I'm going to go against the grain here and tell you to get the factory fan kit. It installs easily and works great. I've found them for $33.99 in my area and I'm sure with a little shopping you can get it for a decent price as well. I think you will have much greater peace of mind using that then rigging a cheap computer fan. Yes, I am going to put one in my own home built incubator, but I've also considered the engineering behind the fan, and I will be using a stand off and blowing the air against the top of the incubator and not towards my eggs.

Basically you will need a 5v transformer from something (Cell phone charger, digital picture frame, or something like that.) to run a CPU fan, or a 12v transformer from something (Cordless phone base, or a similar 300 - 500 mA output device) for the tower/case cooling fan. The larger fan has better volume for a 2' square box like an incubator. Then you need to know how to properly wire the fan to the transformer and hope the transformer is in good condition if you save money by stealing it from a device you used to use, or from a recycling drop off. (Some still call it the Dump) If you're not familiar with soldering or the types of solderless conectors on the market for 22-24 guage wire that will give you the reliability you NEED, then why not save yourself the trouble.

Can a fan kit fail? Of course they can, but then it's the manufacturers fault if you installed it correctly according to the instructions provided. They might even pay for the eggs you lost if it's their fault. You can't say the same with the computer fan and transformer rig that will save you so much money (?). Not to mention the factory kit plugs right into your existing power supply and there's no need for the extra wire sticking out of your incubator in the adapter/fan configuration.

Whichever you decide, get help if you need it and do a good job. You'll be glad you did.
