and then cut a hole in the top and put the light down into it will it melt the Styrofoam? Also a question about ventilation will a small hole in the side towards the top work out okay? Is it okay to put a piece of glass or plexiglass on the side for a viewing window? Is the fan supposed to be near the ventilation opening or can it just hang from the lid?

Sorry still trying to figure it out.

Sounds like you have a good plan. If you are worried about heat and styrofoam just put some foil up there.

I would imagine that if your bulb is hot enough to melt the Styrofoam then you're bulb is too hot. You want gentle heat rather than a blast. A blast that melts Styrofoam might cook an egg. Think about the boiling coffee that goes in a Styrofoam cup with no damage and then think about how you get a soft boiled egg. :-)

Okay thanks. I just don't want to kill them. I must admit I don't want to fail since DD will be watching.
