I am not a crested fan. While they do look cool, it is a skull deformity that makes that crest. Breeding 2 crested ducks together can be a disaster...ducklings hatching with brains exposed, etc...
(P.S. I think Balis are what you are talking about)
Balis are pretty much crested white runners, and I heard that it is actually a not a skull deformity for this particular breed, it is normal for them.....I am debating now and I'm about to put my order in. I know I definetly want a pair of Sebastopols and 10 runner ducks, just not sure what kind of runners.
Whattt?? No way! So you mean my crested Pekin has some kind of head deformity and thats why he has the poof? How come they sell "crested" ducks as a breed? Ive seen them as an option of breed to buy on every website that sells poultry.
If you breed crested to non-crested, the ducklings will be fine. Some will have a crest and some will not. If you breed a crested to a crested....well...it aint pretty. In dog breeding you have double dapple annd double merle issues. People still breed the dogs but you have to know what you are doing.
Hatcheries sell these ducks because people demand them.
I think they are adorable, but I don't think it is a trait I want to mess with so I opt not to raise ducks with cresting of any kind.
