i did 3 differnt trial runs on different methods of hatching ,by reading posts past several months. i have been hatching for many years, several hundred chicks hatching with incubators each year. i use the lil giant still air, no turn table,no fan all hand turning. temp 101 - 102 , ive never had actual humidity reading until i just purchased a therom with humidity reading, which mine read 16 percent.every year i have great hatches ,until these last 2 methods. incubator # 1 i ran, with eggs in egg carton & humidity level at 24 percent. turn rocking every 2 hrs from 8am - 2am......ZERO hatch rate. nothing. incubator #2..ran humidity level at 50 percent first 18 days, when candled 20 out of 24 eggs, duds..70 percent last 3 days..again ZERO hatch rate...incubator #3..normal method...43 eggs, 4 were duds, humidity 16 percent..hatch rate 38 live chicks, one didnt make it out. wondering, where does everyone get the humidity level quotes ive read about? 50-70 percent to me seems like chicks drown in shell. even the egg carton rocking, just didnt seem like eggs were actually getting turned. just enough i suspose to keep from sticking inside. like i originally wrote, if it anint broken dont fix it !
