If it looks and sounds like a rooster....

So we thought we had two silver laced Wyandotte pullets, but today at 22 weeks, “Helga” crowed. Helga has also recently developed big tail feathers. Am I right to call her a rooster!

and if she is, are there any adjustments to make to my management of the chickens? They’re all pullets otherwise - a few breeds (Brahma, Delaware, Wyandottes).

Whoops - I tried to send a pic but it didn’t attach. I’ll try again.

Yep, thats a rooster! He has long, skinny, pointy saddle feathers.
He's very pretty!
Thank you! So this might change things in terms of egg management... will I have to be careful eating fertilized eggs? Or are they ok as long as we refrigerate them promptly?

It's ok to eat them once you refrigerate them they no longer fertile so to speak they're won't grow, when you crack the egg if you see a tiny white spot in the yolk it's fertile but as long as you collect them everyday it won't give them a chance to grow.
