I've loved chickens all my life. My mother, grandmothers, and great grandmothers all raised chickens. I had an aunt and uncle who raised chickens commercially. I received my first very own chick (for free) in 1991. We've had several varieties, some I didn't know the breed names of. Since my daughter and I are allerigic to white and brown shelled eggs, we've settled on the wonderful Ameraucana, or Easter Egg chicken. Our hens can't keep up with the demand for those blue/green eggs.
Right now, we have 1 white duck, 2 guineas, 4 turkey poults, and 20 Ameraucanas (1 rooster, 7 hens, and 12 week-old chicks). We will be getting another dozen Ameraucana chicks and some heavy meat birds the end of April.
I have 1 husband of 32.5 years, who retired from military service 6 years ago. We have 2 adult daughters, 1 six year old granddaughter, 4 grand-poodles, and 1 son-in-law. Rounding out the menagerie, we have 2 Schipperkes, 1 American Cocker spaniel, 3 box turtles, and 1 housecat.
Hobbies? I love to sew and write. Together, my husband and I like to garden and work on improving our place.
