If my chickens can go outside do they need....

grit? They have freedom to cruise around in their fenced yard, and it is a mix of dirt on one part and grass on the other. Will they get whatever grit they need from that or should I add it?

They also get all kinds of veggies and fruit that we have leftover from the kitchen (note: they do not like green peppers!).

my chickens never had grit and theyre perfect.but if yours want some they could just peck at the dirt and find minarals or you could give them crushed oyster shells.dont waste money.

I feed my chicks some grit every now and again but the entire run is sand so I think they get what they need from that. They have done well so far!

Ok, that's kind of what I was thinking--that they would get what they need from the dirt.
