If they aren't australorp chicks, what are they?

They could be black speckled sussex pullets... I haven't seen a chicken like this before, but that would be my best guess unless it's mixed.

I did some more picture searching and finally found one set of pictures that look VERY similar to these when they were just starting to lose some of their fluff. The pictures were of a cross between speckled sussex and black star. I'm not sure if the hatchery I used carries both of those breeds though.

Do you still have them? If so just wait and see. Should be interesting to find out.
We do still have them. I'm definitely curious to see what they grow into.

What does the hatchery say they are? Show them some pictures of them, whoever put the order together obviously didn't do it right. But maybe they can at least tell you what they are.

We had some e-mails back and forth and after they said they would replace the entire order I sent one more reply. In it, I thanked them & also included some front & top view pics of the oddballs & asked if they could tell me what breed they might be. They never got back to me though. I don't know if they didn't see it or they just got busy. I'm sure this is a very busy time of year for them.

I may send them another message about it but I hate to be pushy, especially when they were so good about replacing the order. I know they were a little short handed around the time I got these, so that may have contributed to the mix up. There were a couple of other differences in the original order & the replacement order too. The original order didn't have a warmer in the box, but the replacement order did. Also the replacement order was much more clearly marked. This was my first experience with mail order chicks.
