If you could only have 10 chickens...

I have ten right now.
1 GLW
1 splash hamburg
1 BO
3 EE
2 BA
2 California whites

Ten is not enough. I want:
Columbian wyandottes
Spangled Hamburg
More BA
SLW
and perhaps the ones my DH adores Millie Fleur

Edited to add Banty Cochins one of the sweetest breeds I have met.

Oh, dear. When I started this thread I knew the perils of chicken math. 10 became 10-ish, which became the weight equivalent of 10 standards is 15 bantams, which turned into start with 10, then breed and trade your way up, which became 10 pens. Chicken math is much more fun than run of the mill math!

Luckily, my husband doesn't frequent this site. He thinks we're getting 5 or 6 in the spring, and that's what we'll have for a few years. We have an acre and a half, so I thiink we can bet on being inundated by chicken math. Especially since our 4 year old loves the chicks at the feed store, and Daddy has a VERY soft heart for his little girl!

My (current) wish list of 10 (did I say 5 or 6 earlier?...) is:
2 barred rocks
2 EE
2 Buff Orpingtons
2 Light Brahmas
2 TBA (speckled sussex, Iowa Blue, or red star, depending on what's in stock on chick day. Our feed store has an awesome array of chickies from spring through August, and I've seen all of the above at the store.)

I had to trim down to 9 different breeds- averaging 5 hens and 2 roos each. Yes, I know chicken math.

I would have to add 4 more to my pairs of BSLs, BOs and BLAs.
I think a pair of Jersey Giants and maybe a pair of FBCMs.

Depends if you plan on freeranging or not. I love my White Rocks, but so do all the hawks we have. Neighbors keep losing all their white chickens too.

Gotta say my RIR have been very good layers, personality has varied in my experience. My Buff Orpington and my Barred Rock are very sweet girls and good layers. And of course, everyone's gotta have a Silkie or two. They're not always the best layers, but mine give me an egg a day each, usually, and are so stinking cute. Unfortunately, the eggs are small, so I don't sell them, but we use them ourselves. I love my EE too. I'm lucky that the two I have are nice girls and both give me green eggs. However, both my girls tend to be a little bossy. Not sure if that is a charastic of the breed or not. If you want pretty, I had a Blue Andalusian named Venus. She was an actual blue and laid white eggs, pretty regularly, at least 5 a week, and imo, was B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L. But she was a flyer, though. My other BA was a splash, and he was georgous too, but nasty so we got rid of him. Sorry, guess I have alot that I like.

1 white leghorn
1 ga'anoi (vietnamese.. i wish, won't ever happen)
1 speckled sussex
