***If you get jealous easily, don't read this***

If You could find the time for a one day drive into the countryside and speak with some of the people around you will find some great looking birds. Most of the people speak some english and within ten minutes outside the city you will find a whole other world, it is a wonderful place the people are genuinely nice and like Americans. I have always enjoyed my weekend trips to the Netherlands when I was in Europe.

I would happily work with you to import Dutch Bantams from Holland, especially since you are in Amsterdam. I am the D5 Director of the American Dutch Bantam Society, and can speak to Jean Robocker to get the names of breeders there who would be willing to work with you.

I am also in KY. You can email me offline if you'd like, laura AT katydidscards DOT com.

Best of luck with it!

I was thinking the same thing, there havent been many Dutch imports, I think Jean was the last to import some with the mille fluers.
As others have said maybe choc orps, they are the big thing right now. Or you could just go with a whole different breed that we dont have here in the US like Breda fowl.

Personally if I was to import anything it would be a breed or color that we dont have here in the US with no other sign of importing them. Or if there is a breed that has low numbers and could use some new blood from overseas. As far as some of the breeds you mentioned I would go with choc orps beause the other colors are already being worked on and the import birds you have wont be worth much in the long run since the market might be flooded with that color already by the time you build up numbers.

Maybe import something totally crazy like the naked neck ducks in France or Tula/steinbacher geese.

Whatever you decide on just be sure to get more than 1 pair, try to get 2 trios of unrelated birds fom seperate breeders.

Good Holland wasn't on that banned list.

Sounds like you may want to make a contact in Holland before you go so that their flock can start getting tested now.

good luck

I have sumatan chicks, with true bloodlines. My friend that gave me the eggs claims the birds they came from have identical genetics to the birds first found in asia. He said there genetics are pure, unchanged since import. His Roo has 6 spurs... I ended up with 2 roos and 3 hens. Heres a video clip,
The Samatran's are the black and yellow chicks. If I can get a NY Chicken Egg swap togeather. He'll bring some to sell. He's a guy thats never been online!
