....breed to start raising in an enclosed coop with run, which would it be?

We have a general coop of chickens that will be for egg production, but I'm warming to the idea of raising a "family" of a certain breed in a separate coop. Don't want a mean or overly noisy breed. I've been leaning toward Silkie or Serama because they're said to be more friendly, popular (easy to sell the eggs/chicks), and are smaller so they won't require a large coop.

What breed would YOU choose and why?

If you have it to where no preditors can get to them I would also say Polish... I love mine and they come in such a wide veriety of colors and in bantam and standard... I like frizzled Polish... Beautiful and comical to watch... You can also walk right up to them and pick them up because they can't see you through all those top hat feathers.... They are such eye candy and are a real conversation piece when people come to our farm....

x2 My favorite!!!

I have ONE of those, and I think it's a pullet. I've named her Clara. I don't know why. She's still inside in the brooder, about 5 weeks old, with two Spangled or Speckled Hamburg chicks the same age (hatched the same day). I think they're a pair....

But Clara is a hoot. SO cute, so inquisitive. Little cute fluffs on the side of her face, and feathered feet. Nice upright tailfeathers when she's exploring.
