Okay, imagine you were to start a flock from scratch with the sole purpose of making it as weird looking as possible… Which breeds would you choose, how many of each, and of which sexes?
There are two rules, however:
1) It has to be a healthy flock. No picking 16 roosters for each hen, or something.
2) It has to be of a size managable for the backyard chicken keeper!
Okay, here's my contribution. I'm keeping my flock solely bantam, in order to avoid squashed hens. Also, I'm picking two hens of each breed, in order to avoid lonely hens.
- A Modern Game rooster.
- Two Bantam Silkie hens.
- Two Polish Bantam hens.
- Two Turken Bantam hens.
- Two Frizzled Pekin hens.
I think that would do!
