igloo dog house?

Hay Belly, I love what you did. I see that there is snow there and you have something around the bottom of the coop. My concern where I am in NH is that it wouldn't be warm enough. I need something new for 5 bantams with a roo. And I have a big dog kennel I could use. So you got me thinking lol. I love the igloos to but don't have one. :(

I recently re-claimed 4 chickens after moving into town. I am presently covering the door with a framed wire mesh. In the winter, I plan to just close the flap. My girls lay and roost in the house, and so far, it has been easy to keep clean.

Since taking this picture, I took everything out of house, and have the door rolled up inside (so frame can go outside - fastened with bungies).

Better ideas are welcome. (My home is temporary, and so is theirs. I can't wait to build my next coop.)

This worked great! The girls laid eggs during the day and put themselves to bed at night. I am happy to have moved them to a proper coop at our new home. I am making this a rooster club next - in case any of my new chicks are boys.

I know this is a old thread, but the ideas are great!
I have my baby girl, in a 10x6x10H chain link dog run, I have wire hardware cloth around the bottom. I plan to make a door in the back of the igloo where i can collect the eggs, and place the roost inside, however, not sure if I should put something over the door. This is the first small coop ive ever had, and the first chickens ive had in over 20 years, so i feel like im having to learn all over again. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You could also use a dog kennel. I just put out my youngest pellets. The larger birds and roosters weren't ready to accept them so I built a $30 chicken tractor (lumnah acres design) for the youngest and put a medium sized kennel for four 12 week olds until the 7 month olds have been adjacent to them long enough to be comfortable with them. I have the big ones in a ziptie geodesic dome and considering waiting to build the coop until next year.

A recent suggestion I read was to put bird netting at least around the bottom 2ft or so to keep snakes out.
