I love coming up with these "New Egg" questions that make old hats roll their eyes. I'm no where near ready to start incubating anything, but I prefer to ask silly question well in advance rather than at the last minute.

OK, so I set back a couple of days worth of eggs, say 30, and I put them in the incubator. On day two, I candle and discover that 20 are showing veins, and 10 are clear all the way through. What do I do with the 10? I assume that I dispose of them, but the longer I'm associated with BYC, the less I assume and the more I just ask.

Feel free to have a good horse laugh before you reply.

Nope, not laughing.

At anytime past day 13, it is completely okay to get rid of any completely clear eggs that have no veins or complete darkness.

The only stupid questions are the ones unasked. I would not toss anything until day 13-15. Strange things have happened with eggs that look clear. The only ones I toss are the ones that look like there is water in there - scrambled by the beloved postal service.

Nobody is laughing. You are very smart. The ones that get me are those who write, "My chicks just hatched/arrived, what do I do now?" Some people have come on here having just received chicks or picked them up at a feed store and ask such basic things like what temperature their brooder should be. I don't laugh at them either because that is truly sad, but we help them just the same for the sake of the birds and, hopefully, to better educate the new farmer.

Ask whatever questions you have. There are no dumb ones and nobody is rolling their eyes--well, except in the cases like those cited above.

Good on you for asking a question.

I agree with the above posts and would like to add (Only toss em if they stink before day 14)
