Ill Cayuga 6ish weeks old

Oh Finley, I'm so sorry...it's as I suspected. :/ I'm kinda ticket at your vet for flat-out refusing to help, even if they don't specialize in avian medicine they could have at least found someone for you that does!

I'm so sorry for your beautiful baby Beetle. Please don't be too hard on yourself, ducks are VERY good at getting into things they shouldn't, and even if you spend hours painstakingly combing an area for metal objects, they'll find the 1 out of 1,000 that you missed. I think the magnet is a good idea, though, and I applaud you for your diligence. I know you love your duckies.

Deepest condolences. I've lost several ducklings and every time it's like a knife to the heart. We're here if you need us, ok? :hugs

Thank you

They really are like toddlers...everything in the mouth. Again, very sorry for your loss.

Yeah...anything shiny, down it goes. That's why Bean has a permanent surgical steel ballbearing in her crop now (we call it über grit). You're right, they're exactly like toddlers, both for better and for worse. Poor little baby bird. I hope Bfinley's holding up okay...

I am doing ok, thank you :)

It's frustrating and dissapointing to have an animal pass, but the joy of raising them far outweighs the sorrow of losing them.

Despite growing up on a farm with horses, goats, chickens, geese, pigs, and all the dogs and cats you could want, it never gets easier when your friends fall ill or die.

Thank you again for your concern, life goes on and there are more that need my attention.

Jaaaack! He's still a baby! Were he and Beetle buds? You're accepting this with grace, and I respect you tons for that. I'm kind of a giant softie and I'm still not over losing some of my own feathered babies. But mine live indoors with my fiancee and I and are tremendously bonded to me, so they may as well be ACTUAL babies, heh.

Also, is that you? If so, I may have to celebrate not being the youngest person on the boards anymore. :p

They were pals, I got 2 cayugas (beetle and juice) and 2 buff geese (jack and Daniel) at the same time and brooded them together. They've been inseparable since I got them. My flock right now is like 4 separate gangs.

With four, 5 month old pekins
Now one Cayuga and 2 geese
Five 3 month old hens

All segregate and antagonize each other

And the 16 golden laced wyandottes that are still in the brooder don't know everyone else exists yet...

And yes that's me, is everyone else over 28?

Those have got to be the most perfect names ever. And nope, I'm 32. Hah!
