Are they ANY other symptoms....diarrhea, runny nose, watery eyes, glazed over eyes, coughing, wheezing, something stuck to the vent, not eating, not drinking, mites, worms, stuck egg....

You need to separate her out from the others figure out what her symptoms are.

Here she is about to eat, she usually holds her head slightly higher then that.

She ate and drank, but when i tried to pick her up, instead of running away like most of the others, she just chirped and her head went wild again. Is this due to stress? There is no discharge from the eyes, ears, mouth or nose...and nothing stuck around the vent. Not sure about mites, none of the quail seemed to have mites when we got them from a friend ( about 5 days ago ) and they had been wormed. she was foraging with the others for a while as well, instead of just sleeping. When we got the quail she (Gonzales) was looking a bit off, but we thought it was just stress or fear and she was eating and drinking quite a lot...

If she indeed is wheezing, then she probably has some respiratory ailment and that will also drag her down, making her tired, shaking her head, sleeping, not eating or drinking much. If you suspect a respiratory infection, you should probably get her on antibiotics. If all these quail came from the same place, then they all may have what ever she has. Diarrhea could be from stress, being freshly moved, or possibly illness.

If you have some Duramycin around the house, it wouldn't hurt to get her or all of them on a 10-14 day round of it.

If she is just chirping and not wheezing, then keep an eye on her. You might want to isolate her with one of the others, a female, so she can remain quiet for a few days and adjust to the new surroundings. If she does develop any signs of illness, then I would get her started on antibiotics.

Also, check her over around her vent. Make sure she is not egg bound by feeling around her vent and up the pelvis to the legs on the outside of her body. If there is a stuck egg, you should be able to feel it along this area.

Hi Twocrows,
i couldn't feel anything that might be an egg, but could it be a soft shell and if so, how do you tell? she doesn't have diarrhea any more, and she was eating and drinking, but she looked a bit more wobbly today...

Oh, and also, is it safe to pick her up again if she gets that scared and her head starts flopping al over the place? and could the other symptoms be stress to? Please get back to me if you can. Thanks.

Sorry i have so many questions, i'm just worried about my dear Gonzales.

Has she been wormed recently? That is always a good place to start with trying to diagnose poultry. Worms can kill a bird over time. If she needs a worming, then do so. The only other thing you might try is the antibiotics. If she were my bird, I would separate her out from the others and get her on a week or two of antibiotics. If you don't see any improvement after 5 to 7 days, then you can stop the meds. She may have some internal infection going on and the meds can help to clear it up.

Picking up birds can stress them out, that is for sure. But they should not look sick because you picked them up. Limit the amount of times you have to pick her up, but don't be afraid to do so to take care of this business at hand.
