Any help is much appreciated!!

Two of the 7-week old Silkies from different angles. Boys? Girls? I'd hate to get rid of them and have them be girls.

Oh, and definitely a BR Roo, right??

And last but not least, Pitch--the mystery bird.

I have no idea about the silkies, but can offer a guess with the other 2. They both look like hens to me, but I am far from being an expert. Our BR hens have bigger combs and waddles like that one, and I thought BR roos were more white. The mystery bird might be an Australorp.

Thanks for chiming in outdoorgal! I would love it if the BR is a hen. BR's & Australorps were on the Wish List when I started it!

ZooSD, They sure look alike. Thanks for the photo!

How old is your BR? The black chicken is definitely a hen. I'm not a great silkie sexer, but I think its a roo based on how much comb is visible. I think it would have more poof and less comb if it were female.

I don't do silkies, so I'll skip those lol.
The barred bird is male. If you look at the enlarged pic you can see hackle and saddle feathers starting. It's not pure barred rock, though, or it would be lighter. It's probably a black sex link cockerel.
The black bird is probably and australorp pullet.

Jamie7100--my BR is 3 months old today. I was really hoping he wasn't a roo. I have a BR pullet and they always hang together. Unfortunately, I already have a roo. DH does not want 2.

Donrae--Now that you mention it and after looking at the pic again, I do see the hackle feathers starting on the BR. You are right--he's probably a cross. Father is a BR cross and Mother is most likely a BR. My broody hatched 4 of a friend's eggs. Her hens are BR's, EE's, and Plymouth Rock's. I've already had 2 people say the hen was probably an Australorp!
