Does anyone know the best bedding to use in an outside, gamble quail aviary, 12 x 12, on a ground [of DG and sand]???? The quail have a coop to go into, but spent all the time outside
on the ground or on a purch above......what is the best way to keep the ground sanitay ??? please help!

I don't know about gambel specifically, but acceptable litter for me for grown quail would be: Pine shavings, Aspen shavings, recycled paper litter, even news paper. You should pick something that is both effective for your needs as well as cost effective.

Personally speaking, the best and most sanitary flooring for all but button and maybe some rare species of quail is 1/4 hardware cloth.

thanks for that info... I do have some in smaller pens on wire ...i just wanted to make a bigger more "natual " area for them to run around in ..if I just scoop up the poop once a week is there somthing I can use to spray the area to keep it disinfected that wont hert the birds???:

how many birds are you planning on having in there a 12X12 sure would look nice planted but if you have alot of birds in there it would never work

If they are outside on the ground, I wouldnt use no litter at all, I would just let them on the bare ground to peck and scratch til hearts are content............Thats what I would do............good luck.............

there will only be about 12 birds in a 12 x 12 area 12sq ft / bird ....what ya think ????

I would plant field grass and when you water it that should keep it clean enough
it would also look nice with some of the tall grasses and things like that just to make it look cool I really don't think you would need much more then that

I have 6 gambel quail on the ground in a pens thats only 4x10 feet and I just have grass on the bottom.
