Hello, I desperately need some advice. I have an almost 3-year-old turkey hen who hasn’t been doing well for about 2.5 weeks.
Week 1 I treated her with Corid (she had been dewormed just a couple weeks prior with the rest of my flock, so I knew it wasn’t worms). She didn’t get better, but she didn’t decline further. I ended up submitting a fecal sample, and it came back clean of any parasites.
Week 2 I took her to the vet because she was barely eating. I figured she could use some antibiotics if the cause was a bacterial infection. **Important: her sister passed away the day before. No obvious signs or symptoms she wasn’t doing well other than walking a tad slower. Necropsy report diagnosed her with ovarian cancer. She had a tumor that ruptured, causing internal bleeding.** The vet prescribed her Tylosin, which she has been on for exactly 1 week. Drinking is fine (could drink more but not terrible), food consumption has not improved.
When I offer her high-value foods like mealworms, scrambled eggs, and pieces of banana, she rushes to eat but then after a few bites something makes her stop. I told the vet that I thought her abdomen felt tense, but she disagreed.
Has anyone else dealt with something similar? I’m at a loss for how to proceed. Aside from the lack of eating, she’s not acting super lethargic in any way.
