Illinois...

I tried to get more pics of chickens in the snow, but my photo-bombing chicken (Precious) prevented it.

Since she wasn't going to give me a chance to photograph anything else, I took a few more of her.

Here I think Precious is saying............... "" HEY.......... U LOOKIN AT ME ?!?!?!

Was outside with the guys today, and snapped a couple pics of the boys. My Thor, blue Orp, is just huge! Here he is standing next to Zoey my marans. And Al, has really started to fill out finally. Just thought I would share.

Still trying to finish up their run. Have the side walls up, but still need to get the framing up for the covered run, which might just end up covering it with hardware wire and plastic at this rate. I can't wait to have a poop free deck and patio again. For that last snow, I just dug a hole and sunk a 2 x 4 in the center and covered it in plastic, so the run would be free of snow. I need more time in a day and maybe hire a babysitter for my grandkids that I babysit for!

And I had a freak out moment tonight. Went out to close up the coop and Zoey wasn't there. After looking for her everywhere, I checked under the deck and there she was. I couldn't coax her out with anything because of the rain and it was dark. So my son helped me get her out with a long Tiki torch, haha. Brought her in checked her over and doesn't seem to be anything clearly wrong with her. But I am wondering if she is getting tired of the Roos. Thor is so big compared to the hens and Al just started, so its like he has a new toy he can't get enough of. Hoping that's all it is.

I want some of those lol

Did you find a home for all your barred rocks? or is that why you are laughing? LOL. Have you tried posting on FB like the poultry pages, or Illinois Backyard chickens. I had 7 roos I needed to rehome and a guy from Indiana took them all. I had posted them on Poultry Pages. Good Luck! I have a Splash Orp, an Isbar and a Mottle cochin bantam roos I will be rehoming in early spring. I also ordered a couple of SL chicks from Papa Poultry and he sent some extra chicks for warmth of which I am sure I will have some more roos to find homes for.

Poor, cold Zoey! I'm sure she's grateful for the warm dry coop right now. My orp boys have mated my little Cookie - bantam orp. She's not as small as many bantams, but our former roo simply left her alone. (Never got fertile eggs from her until recently.) They're not really sure what to do with the Sebright, though. That tiny bird is maybe the size of a blue jay. Luckily she's also fast, so it's doubtful the roos will ever catch her.

Warm Zoey is in the cat carrier in the house. I figured just in case, I would keep an eye on her. I made her some scrambled eggs and tucked her in for the night.
