Just a couple of pics from my on going hatch (15 so far) and at least 6 more pipped:

First One is blue mottled and the 2nd probably a black split to choc from a choc silver laced project.

I am not getting alerts in my email either. I have checked all settings and don't find any that says when someone replies to your post send an email message. I guess they got rid of that feature for now.

I am however getting email alerts for private conversations.

2nd One- What is the best way to put down a chick. I just don't have the heart to do it. A newly hatched is:

• missing a toe &
• on the same leg, the portion between knee and ankle is missing and the whole foot is facing backwards. Its not a dislocation, its just backwards.

I don't think it can survive like that but miracles do happen. Any other options?

I'm so sorry. Very sad. I hate culling Chicks. I prefer beheading, it is messy but by far the quickest method and I believe the kindest, you just have to learn to live with the memory. The second method is using dry ice in a closed container, but this is expensive for a small chick.

Mulberries; one way for your chickens to get their vitamins naturally/organically. Now with the berries ripe, all my feathered friends are eating them. Encountering quite a few purple mini bombs as they fly over my driveway/cars/lawn furniture.
In the Mediterranean areas, people actually cultivate mulberries. They are a bit larger than the wild versions we have growing here. Taste is similar. If eaten when well ripe, they are tasty and sweet. Still remember how I would climb trees as a child to get these berries.

We finally got the pool set up with a drain for the duckies. I picked off the darkest berries I could reach and chucked them in their for the ducks to go after. It was really funny to watch. However it is getting dangerous to walk around back there, with all the berries hitting the ground. Need a little more ranging time I think

Our neighbor's mulberry tree hangs over our garage. The ones up front roll off onto our concrete driveway. Must be hosed off before any car or bike can come out. Very annoying! However one benefit is that we sometimes place a vinyl table cloth down to collect them. (Fresh Mulberry+Blueberry muffins are great.) The ones that fall toward the back roll off onto our back patio. The chickens gobble them up!

I tried to bring the chickens up front to clean off our driveway, but they only wanted to roll around in my herb garden!

Happy Father's Day!

Here are the 1st chicks of today's (Sat's) hatch. I think they're running a little late, but I expect more to come on Sunday. 5 chicks are out and 8 eggs remain. (3 of the eggs developed pips in the last hour.)

We have:

a gold laced orp (1st to hatch) I love its chubby face

2 silver laced orps

I slipped 5 eggs from my flock under my hens to keep them broody. At 8:30pm, none of those have hatched yet.

Wow @Faraday40 you are a professional photographer- no less. That gold laced chubby face and the frown is priceless.
One of my incubators (the Brinsea) hatched zero until Day 21 ended and then all of a sudden everyone (24 out of 26) hatched within 4 hours. Maybe its the line that just hatches when Day 22 starts. or maybe they need another .5 to .8 degree more temp (that I kept in the other incubator where everyone hatched Day 20 except 1. I am almost sure you will have a bunch more hatch when you wake up for Father's Day
