They introduced those little suckers across the street from us in the forest preserve. I am building my coop with them in mind. They can get in where coons can't.

Big storms this morning and more heavy storms this afternoon. Is it weird that I took advantage of a lull in the storm to go pick up worms off the sidewalk outside my work? I got 2 dozen in about 2 minutes....my chickens were so happy when I got home from work with all those treats

I have had my grandson help me gather worms for the chickens too. So your not the only one, or maybe we are both weird!

Here are my little cuties that hatched this morning.
Black is OEroo x CCl Yellow is Buff Orp x CCl roo Brown/Red is RIR x CCl roo. Cleaning out the incubator and Blue, Black and splash standard Cochins are going in!

Mine used to like worms during their 1st year, then all of a sudden stopped eating them. ???? I've never figured it out.

They still love mealworms & other tastey treats.

This winter I started growing barley fodder for my chickens and bunnies, I bought everything I need to raise mealworms too.....but I never got around to it......maybe next winter when all the bugs are scarce again.

I sometimes grow the mealworms, but I also buy the dried ones for training. We have a couple hens that do tricks. My Cuddles is trained to peck at a red chip but gets no mealworm for pecking at the other colors. I write silly answers on the circles & make sure I use the red chip for the answer I want. EX: Should the children clean their rooms? Cuddles pecks the red chip with the answer "YES" All chickens come running when called, but a few know their names. Those will also jump into our laps or on our arms when invited.

The Ag school is rotating out their flock, and since they are so close by, I couldn't resist. I went and picked up a pretty little leghorn to add some white eggs to my basket. Meet Prim she is just under 2yrs old!
