Illinois...

My 9 year old EE came out of retirement and laid an egg. Last egg was a year ago... I will probably have to wait till 2016 for her next one. =D=D=D
We got to see that 9 year old's pic. Does she look aged? Just very curious since I have never seen a 9 year old chicken before.

I really had to stop myself from buying this 15lb Red Orpington Rooster, or shall I say I got lucky and fell asleep on the computer chair otherwise it was very tempting for $30. Whoever bought it is very lucky as well.

Quote: Well here are the pix of hen and egg.
Her name is Delilah.

The egg is slightly more pale than what she used to lay.

You can see her in my albums, but not as well as here. That is why I went out and did a foto shoot. LOL
Also in my album is a pix of a silver seabrite. She is no longer,

She lived 13 years.

Well Delilah still looks young and healthy. Your must be treating your chicken very well.

Aww, pretty girl and she looks great! Your a good man to keep them even when they stop laying. I asked my husband if we should rotate out our first 3 girls when they hit 3, and we both agreed they have earned the right to stay.

I only keep my hens as pets. It does not matter if they lay eggs or not. The 2 RIR that are 1 year old provide us with more than enough eggs. When I was getting more eggs from some of the other chickens ( when they were laying.) I just gave them away to a neighbor. Besides, eggs are cheap in the grocery store. Store eggs are just fine for me. I'm not fussy. =D=D=D. I frequently support the same feed store that you go to. I recognized it from some of your post pix. If the rest of the people treated their chickens like I do. 2 things would happen. 1. They would go broke.

2. They would go hungry.
