Illinois...

Well my 1 lonely Orpington egg hatched! Chick is too wet to tell if its a brown, blue or mauve. The wait is going to kill me. Hoping for a brown or mauve, since I have the blue, black, splash chicks coming in a week or two.

I was sitting out on the grass watching everyone playing outside, my daughter, her bunny, the dog, the older chickens and the month old chicks....the dog barks at the fence for whatever reason, and the chicks all jump up in the air then run under my legs. Yes, little bitties, mommy will protect you.

My chicks are 3 weeks old yesterday. Give or take a few days. Every time I open the brooder they want to perch on the edge. It is crazy how fast they are growing and getting feathers.
