Illinois...

Just a reminder with the avian influenza running wild in neighboring states, anyone going to a poultry show should be sure to practice good biocontainment, anti-cross contamination or whatever practices with your clothing (especially shoes) and quarantine any birds before introducing them to your flock as you just don't know where they have been or what they might have been in contact with...

WOW! BEAUTIFUL serama roo.

Thanks to all who sent links on the swap meets, I'm tempted but think I'll hold off for now. Knowing me I'll come back with 12 hens and a new dog.
Although I do need a bantam cochin hen.....

Does anyone in this group of Illinois chicken folks have a membership to the University of Chicago Library? If so, please message me as I have a request? Doing some research, but I don't want to have to make a road trip to Chicago.

I posted this thread 5 days ago, but threads frequently get LOST here on BYC, so Illinois Chicken Fanciers...tell me what you think? Thanks!

Although no longer a chick, my son loves playing with HIS chicken. We hatch many lav chicks & he kept picking this one out to play with. Not a purebred, but thankfully a pullet. Looks like I have to keep it now. (4.5 months old)

Those were some of my Coronation Sussex hen X Lav Orp roo. Both parents were purebred, but I just wanted to see what would hatch out. I sold them as mixes, but they sold out much faster than even the pure orps. I must admit that their personalities were more docile than the pure orps. (That's saying A LOT b/c our orps are laps chickens.) My son's chicken actually seeks out human interaction. The poor thing is constantly going down the slide, being driven around on toy cars, pulled in the wagon, being put in the fort, & playing on the swings, It's only a matter of time before my DD starts dressing it up. Through it all, that little pullet & her friends keep following the kids around.

My daughter hatched a faithful little chick that liked to follow her around the house. She even played "hide n seek" with it! (She hid behind the couch & called. It would peep like crazy & run to follow her voice.) Sadly it was a male & also one of the mixes. We gave it away to a farm, so hopefully, because of his charm, he's still alive.
