Illinois...

My sis is home. The hospital ordered a SEPAP that should arrive later this week or early next week. They said to continue to use the O2 in the meantime. (I still find it strange that they didn't loan her one.) They gave her a walker & ordered PT at home. My dad will be scheduling dozens of tests. I went to visit yesterday, cooked dinner & helped tidy up. Lots of work to do there because neither can clean & lots of "stuff." Of course I feel the same way about my own house. I've been preoccupied lately & the clutter takes over quickly with 2 kids, 2 dogs, dozens of chicks, & 1 overworked me!

Meanwhile, 3 more chicks found homes & will leave today. The remaining will be my grow outs. I was orig hoping to keep the lavs & have DD enter them in the fair (& then sell), but I needed to empty out the brooder. The orps will be spoiled & it makes less work for me now. Out of 24 chicks, we'll be down to 8 by the end of the day. We'll keep those for a few months & see how they look before making any more decisions. The little blue orp might be a female & I decided to keep her for now. I've always wanted a blue.

I'll take pics when I can.

Today is day 18 for the next hatch, & about 23 eggs look good. I think only 2 of the 10 penciled rocks made it. I've got 2 EEs & the rest are all orps. Choc cuckoo, lavender, blk/lav split, & the fun Oopsie eggs. (Never know what she'll hatch out!) I emptied the brooder just in time! Cookie decided to go broody last week. I've been unsuccessful at breaking her, so I'm going to slide a couple eggs under her. Once the chicks hatch, she'll be put to work caring for the whole batch. She's a bantam, so it's easier to just put her inside the big brooder. Any chicks that can't fit under her, can use the heat pad for warmth. She will make my job easier. The only quirk she has is that she must feel like she's the mom. If I slip chicks under her right away while her other eggs hatch, she adopts them. If they're 3+ days old, she'll attack any outsider chicks. It's not like she can count, but she can always tell when a chick is not hers.

Well the only recent pics I have are of a Spitz. She/he's 3 weeks old & the "spitz" just grew in.
Glad to hear she is doing a bit better and she is probably happy to be home. I went thru something similar with my sister. My sister lived with my parents, and when they both passed, (12 days apart) my sister didn't handle it well. Anyway she was living with me for a couple of years. She was having many serious health problems also. I took her in for a biopsy, she ended up going septic, rushed in for emergency surgery and was in ICU for a little over 2 weeks. Scary stuff. So I feel for you.

That little Spitz is adorable!

What a lovely and diverse flock! Are the chicks from your flock?

Yeah we have quite the mix. We have a Light Brahma (retired), RIR (retired) [These 2 girls are nearly 5 yrs old], Blue Cochin, Partridge Brahma, 2 Turkins (1 of which is an Olive Egger), EE, Barred Rock/Ameraucana, 3 White Leghorns (adopted after an artist friend of ours couldn't keep them anymore, we got them right before they started laying), Sarama, Cinnamon Queen, Shizzle Naked Neck Showgirl (silkie), and a Cuckoo Silkie Roo. We had 3 others that were killed by an opossum and we had a small Calico Frizzle Cochin Bantam but she was stolen 3 nights ago.

The showgirl is broody so we had her sit on a handful of eggs. 3 hatched, 2 were not fertile. The first one didn't make it. Of the other 2, 1 is Turkin (olive egger)/Silkie and the other is Partridge Brahma/Silkie. They are 2 weeks old.

Thanks me and my wife's little flock.
