Illinois...

OK so here's our mystery blue orp from Oopsie.

It's now 5.5 weeks.
Sometimes I think, "Darn another cockerel!"
Other times I think, " She's such a pretty girl!"

Those wattles are way too pink for my liking, but the comb is so tiny. Mine always have huge headgear by 4-5 weeks, and this chick has barely a bump. I have no idea its gender.

I really hope I don't have to wait until it lays an egg or crows!

Any more guesses?

This was Licorice when we got her, no beard or muffs then either. She has been one clean faced little chicky. I think Olive the new EE has a clean face too. The one that started the whole drama two weekends ago had a beard and muffs. I was pretty excited about that. Oh well. Licorice is a pretty bird, so I am excited to see what Olive does. Also that was one heck of a catch up there @chickendreams24
Lol yep sorry you guys got away from me lol. All of our we from the hatchery(our local store orders from cackle hatchery and they have all been bearded and muffed-great for winter without the wattles) plus I love their faces. They are super, super cute! We have also been blessed in that we haven't gotten anything but a blue or green eggs from our EE we got from them. Come on up here and I'll give you one of our bearded and muffed little 2-3 week pullets. :) Everyone should have a bearded chicken!
The next hatch has begun. 2 out and many others pipped. 2 of the air cells had not shrunk enough so we will see if they make it.
400
I hate when air cells don't shrink. I incubate dry and sometimes I still feel like they should be larger. It's infuriating. Go chickies go!! Go chickies go!!
:jumpy :celebrate :yiipchick Keep 'em coming!

Ooph that's pretty pink and those wattles. I'm going to guess cockeral for right now. Also if it does turn out to be a boy and needs a home please keep me in mind. 3 years later and we're still looking for blues lol. I love being rural but almost no one around here has anything but the basics and actually chickens aren't very common around me. Sadly. We got a couple of boys processed yesterday despite wind that could just about knock you over. Lol makes the job much more difficult. To top it off the second boy we did ended up being a closet molter. All those pin feathers hidden under beautiful plumage. It was insane. After nearly an hour trying to pluck him I decided and we gave up and skinned him. We never would have finished plucking. Got a little too much sun yesterday while we worked. A little sunburned. It was a busy weekend. Friday or Saturday our box from a plant nursery showed up 6 tophat dwarf blueberries and 80 teacup strawberries. Holy cow! We have been so busy planting plants it's nuts. DH2B admits he was feeling ambitious when he ordered all of them. LoL we still have 10 more strawberries to go and are at a loss as to where to put them. Guess were making a raised bed lol. Our buckeye chicks are shipping from the breeder today so should arrive tomorrow or the next day. The necropsy came back on the juvenile but is Greek lol I will probably be calling them tomorrow for clarification on a few things but from what I can tell they found cocci and a couple parasites and e coli, I think. Meaning we may not have anything respiratory in the flock at all which is great but the chicks eye is still a mystery. Hopefully they can answer all my questions. We have opened some of the intestines of birds we have processed looking for parasites (after the birds are done of course) and never found anything. My sheltie, Molly, is miserable with a flare up of her Lyme's disease. 93$ later she's getting her meds. We have also made the discovery that one of our small white quail from our last hatch that flew out of its brooder last week and was caught by one of our cats was actually injured. The chick was looked over several times that day and the next and no injuries were found. On Saturday we found a small scab under it's wing when it stopped walking around and acting normally. It is still eating and drinking and is mobile but crawls more than walks. We are treating the infection(which I'm sure is the problem) with topical antibiotic ointment. We are also making sure the chick is eating and drinking. I'm not sure what else to do bc the chick is pretty small. The cat is lucky that we love her. My Grandpa was moved last Friday to the psych facility where he is in special Alzheimer's care as they try to figure out his meds and regulate them. He will hopefully be moved back to his usual facility as soon as his meds are corrected. Continued prayers for him are appreciated please. More later guys. :)

My guess is pullet

BYC - My chick with the foot problems is looking better.

A few days ago:

Today:
It still walks sort of tippie toed & looks like the back toe needs to flatten down. It's not walking a lot, but a few days ago it just sort of crawled. He/she's been eating & drinking normally.
I'm going to keep up with the shoes, higher protein, & vit in the water. I'm not sure if it can make a full recovery or if it will always have a poor gait. Right now I'm just hoping for it to survive.

Is this the one Junibutt and I thought was a cockerel? Legs are looking kind of thick but can't tell if they are long, is there an orpington pullet of the same age you can compare legs too? Either way its a pretty bird! Hope you little one with the foot problem straightens out. Cute chick!

I am up to 5 hatched and 5 left. There are a couple others pipped. Will post pics when hatch is finished.

@chickendreams24 Dont tempt me! Husband also says I dont need this kind of encouragement. Which I noticed isnt a no hahahaha

I've been sick for a few days and he has taken over chick care for me.. I think maybe they are rubbing off on him. I also got sunburned after fifteen minutes in the sun. Its the story of my life.

@Faraday40 I am glad the little one is looking a bit better. I also hope that the blue will be a girl for you. SO PRETTY.

Is this the one Junibutt and I thought was a cockerel? YES (The mom came from his line & Moose is the likely father (slight chance Mr Dummy)

When my sis went into ICU I quickly sold all my orps (except this blue one) to lighten my load. I figured I could always hatch more, but I only have one sister.

I have pics of Godiva at the same age- she looked similar with the same size wattles. However, the color in the blue's wattles is what makes me keep questioning myself.

Hope you little one with the foot problem straightens out. Cute chick!

Here's Godiva on 4-30-16 ( about 1 month old)

Here's Oopsie (the blue's mom) at 6.5 weeks
I remember being concerned about her color

Silly little Moose at 5 weeks

I LOVE those pictures of Cookie! Also good name. Our chihuahua mix is named Cookie.

The little ones were on the floor with me for a bit today while husband cleaned the brooder.

They are coming around to me now. I have noticed Olive doesn't have any tail feathers, but over all is pretty sweet now. The little furry footed one (Cream Puff) is getting black in her wings. So yeah, I think I did buy a brahma...

Meringue the Austrawhite is getting in more black spots than I thought she would. It will be interesting to see how many she has in the end and she is protective of the other little ones.. And the last one, Sassafras (Sassy, and boy oh boy is it fitting, and the Welsummer husband named) is loud and pecks at fingers and hands to show her dissatisfaction with them being near her.

She's sweet little thing most of the time - like a cookie. But when broody = She turns into COOKIE MONSTER!

I'm sure with a Chihuahua mix, you can relate.

Glad you (and your DH) are enjoying the chicks.
