saber tooth groundhog... has been digging under neighbors shed and eating my lettuce .. neighbor had her son put out conibear traps and I was worried about my cats, so when an opportunity arose i took care of the problem.. or at least a couple so far... but this poor girl, she was in good shape , but I think she would have had major problems later.... never had nursed, but I think she was looking for a spot

WOW! Surprised that poor thing was able to eat & stay alive!

I once had a dwarf rabbit that had poorly aligned teeth. He couldn't wear them down, so we had to snip them every once & a while so he could eat. Lived 9 years and was otherwise fine.

Since I doubt you wanted to spring for her dental care, the groundhog's in a better place.

Had to snap some pics of the baby Chocolate bantam cochins when their mom brought them up on the deck this evening. I am loving the little frizzle boy and the sweet little girl who left the Hershey kiss for me on the deck.

I agree!

It's so fun to watch the diff broody parenting styles. Cookie is very, very strict. She always makes all her chicks stay within a wing's stretch. Even with so many! Notice how they have the whole tractor but are right next to her. She's always calling to them and makes them follow her. She's also very obsessive about teaching them to scratch!

Trouble is more laid back & allows her chicks more freedom to learn & explore. The chicks wander around & she follows them. She's very protective vocally, though. If a hen comes too close to her tractor, everyone will hear it. Her fav thing is teaching her chicks how to quickly dart in & steal treats away from the slow moving orps.

Right now these two are sharing a tractor with a screen divider between them. I'm hoping they will buddy up like last time. There's a small passage between them so the chicks can pass through & have play dates. The 1st day I had some older chicks on both sides, but Cookie called all of them to her side.

Craigslist is a strange thing. Because I have so many chicks, I'm having a "sale" this weekend on all the 2 week olds. I had a couple come to buy 2 chicks, but they saw & really liked my quail. We just hatched some yesterday & this morning. They bought the whole hatch!

Because of the back to back chicks, I actually didn't pay much attention to the quail eggs. I certainly didn't check the incubator daily. I even forgot to write down the hatch date, so I just stopped turning them on Wed. 15 out of 18 hatched. Crazy!

night before last my other Grandpa (Massen) was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. He had a severely infected bedsore on his backside. Fever of 103 and non responsive. Odd bc he is still ambulatory. We now know that it's MRSA.

Due to his end stage Alzheimer's they may not even decide to treat him. Being only a grandchild I am not involved in the process only affected by the outcome. My Mom aunt uncles and Grandma are supposed to be deciding today.

Mr. Wonderful is not doing well at all today. I had noticed that yesterday he was holding his wings out like he was hot and not as active as usual. When I went to let him out this a.m, his comb tips were purple. Unable to balance himself. I was thinking his heart, but gave him a shot of tylan just in case (My first time giving my chickens a shot) boy, I was nervous. I had did the yearly preventative ivermectin treatment last week for mites, so that shouldn't be an issue. What else could be going on?

I have gotten rid of the 2 that I had and the roo. I personally don't know of anyone locally that has Chocolate bantam cochins, sorry. Maybe someone else here could point you in a direction.
