I would love to take a 1 or 2 day road trip! Mapquest says it would take us 3.5 hours to get to Decatur from here. Plus, our 8th grader is a history geek, we could visit Springfield and he could show us all about it. When?

When and where is what we are trying to figure out. We need lots of imput as to time and place that is convenient for everyone wanting to attend. Also ideas as to what we want to do. Do we want to make it just a picnic? Or a picnic/swap? Give us ideas as to what you all want.​

I know July can be hot but with the Pavilion and plenty of shade trees, any birds bringing in would be OK but not sure of the park's rules. Maybe just egg, chicks, crafts, plants, chicken books or equipment swap or in tailgating LOL! But with alot of us, traveling in the summer, it would be best if we stick with this.

Fairview Park is lovely and right off from the highway, easy to access, Krogers is just north of the highway so you don't have to go far to get perishable foods. There are other resturaunts on Eldorado Street to choose from.

I think covered dish would be good for folks traveling out of town. I can bring a bucket of fried chicken pieces!

Yahoo maps has it as a 2 hr 39 min drive for us. We can usually beat it's estimate but it's still a haul. Maybe check and see what dates the pavilion is available, that would perhaps narrow the dates down.

Just got off work. I can check about the park tomorrow. My husband is a singer and DJ, so we can provide the music. And he has karaoke if anyone wants to sing. I sure hope everything works and we can do this. I for one am excited about meeting everyone. I also check about the chickens.

The problem with music of all the places I have been into, are sometimes LOUD and folks can not hear anything what anyone else is saying. We all love a good musical jam so that is another thing to add on LOL! Maybe a special featured appearance by the Muppet's chickens LOL! Oh fun!

I know if we do this, an article in the paper or sent a blog to WCNA (our local news) to inform folks about city chickens. We would need to make some kind of brochures or flyers ABOUT chickens, reading materials and all that stuff that they can take it home and read over it and join on the BYC forum. Unless you want to keep it quiet for now.

Also breed associations can put their flyers out too! And display colored eggs for everyone to see! The biggest one would be educating folks about the Ameraucanas VS Easter Eggers and how the hatcheries have always mislead customers about that breed name.

Is there a park in Bloomington that would work?

That would be a bit closer than Decatur for the people coming from the north. (I'm noticing a lot of people posting are from the northern area

I just got off the phone with the park district. I dont know what day would be good for everyone but I asked about Saturdays in July. They have available the 23rd and the 30th. I havent booked cause I wanted to run it by you all first. They said no chicken swap. So if anyone wants to do it somewhere else, chime in. This is just in the planning stage so nothing is set in stone. I want it to be convient as possible for everyone. I am open to any and all ideas. Robin you have great ideas things I had been thinking about myself. I am going to do something that I dont usually do but I want to make this work. Anyone that wants my phone number to discuss this PM me. I do need to know in advance what we all decide cause I will have to switch a day with someone if I am not off that day. For me Sunday would work better as I am off every Sunday but we cant get the park that day. Its booked every Sunday. So everyone lets brainstorm this and make it happen
