Illinois...

There is the link!

And if I had some Welsummers for sale, most likely roosters, I would bring them if anyone is interested in them.

Its a great place and they have that Halloween going on that is so much fun! We have been there about three times and it has been over eight to nine years since we have been there. Time for us to make a comeback and see something different out there. It is very rare for us to go out there. We was goin to Jacksonville but with the flood we had that weekend, it was cancelled. Our next CW reenactment would be Danville, IL in September, on the last weekend.

Hi All, I posted this message in the ordinances forum as well, but a very nice chick replied that I might get some luck over here. Can anyone help me?
Thanks!
Megan
Original post:
I have wanted chickens for years, but live in a part of Atlanta that requires two acres of land to have them. I don't have two acres, hence, no chickens. But we are moving to Lake County IL soon, and I want to find a town or area that allows BYC. From what I can tell, I must have five acres to have chickens, but on my first trip up there, I saw horses everywhere, many on smaller lots than five acres. What gives?
I have tried to find a post that already addresses my questions, but didn't see one, so I apologize if this is a repeated question for y'all.
So, all you Lake County IL folks, what are my options in terms of towns/cities/rural areas?
Thanks so much!
My next step is calling every zoning board to ask the question. I have already ruled out a lot of towns through online research, but I am looking for some place, somewhere up there that allows the chickens!
Thanks so much!
Megan

I would just call the zoning board and ask them. Better safe than sorry!

I am doing that, but there is a lot of bureaucracy to go through -- I was hoping someone here might be able to give me a couple towns, etc. for some places to start where I might not hit another brick wall. Thanks again!

We live just out of the city bounds and we haven't had any complants. There are people within city bounds that have a bunch of chickens!
I would much rather live out in the country any day! So you won't have to deal with the zoning board.

Hi!!! I live in Lake county in Wauconda. I am in an unincorporated area and have all kinds of livestock "neighbors". In our area there are still a lot of farms so I would look in areas in northern and western Lake county. Even eastern McHenry county. Here is a link to a real estate site to give you an idea of communities where you would likely find livestock friendly communities. Lake County is often referred to as "horse country" lots and lots of horse owners live here.

Don't know what you are looking for exactly but this will give you some of the community names worth looking into... it's a place to start. Good luck and welcome neighbor!!!

Well, I just got through to the Lake County Building Codes folks and they tell me I must have five acres to have chickens. For horses, I can have just two acres. Doesn't seem fair to me. But that is in unincorporated Lake County. My only hope, then, is some village or town in the county that allows them. Apparently there are 52 municipalities in the county! Does anyone live in one of these that allows chickens (I'm expecting to buy between 1-2 acres).
Thanks so much!
Megan

Oh, and by the way, my husband is a lawyer and a stickler for the laws, so we won't be doing the chickens on the sly. He will help me change the laws if possible, but won't break any. ;-)
