I just got my first ducklings today. A pair of Mallards.

I currently have them outside under shade. I'm feeding them chick start and have a shallow bowl for them to drink from.

Hope to explore this section more!

Congratulations... After keeping chickens - you will find ducklings just adorable and fully of personality. Enjoy them while they are small - as they grown so fast.

I went outside to check on them, and they were hiding under the straw. I freaked out when I remembered I had stepped on that area.

How old are they. They should have a light over them and temp at 90 degrees the first week. The temp should be reduced 5 degrees every week. Are they going to be warm enough???

Well, it's 91 degrees today in Yuma, AZ (where the original poster is from), so the ducklings should be just fine (if not too hot) during the day - but make sure they have a heat source overnight, Rio_Lindo_AZ!

And congrats! It starts as two ducklings, and then the addiction sets in. I started with three, and now I have 16 adults, 13 ducklings in the brooder, 3 eggs in the hatcher, and 8 eggs in the incubator!

Thanks for the tips.

The ducklings are a weeks old and seem to get along just fine. I have a bowl of water for them to play in (two inches deep) that helps them cool down. I don't bring them in at night... the guy at the feed store said they'll be fine living outside.

I use the deep litter method, so the decomposing material gets pretty warm. When they're cold, they go down into the straw.
