im a new chicken lover that need to convince family to getting them

i really love chickens, but my family dosnt like the idea. they think to much money, and time for somthing that is pointless=( i would really love to get them and i need to no how to convince them to get them, and what materials i need to get started.

You could start by saying that chickens are not pointless- they provide nutritious eggs and are very stress-relieving to watch. In comparison, cats are really pointless. Although I love cats just the same.

Also, if you make your own coop, it is not very expensive. We've spent less than $100 on our henhouse and run by using lots of recycled materials.

and show it to your family to help them learn more.

Read through it, educate yourself, and THEN go to your family. When they say something like "We can't have chickens, they're too loud" you can counter back and say "Actually, only the roosters are noisy, the hens don't make much noise at all."

Chickens make fun, entertaining, inexpensive, and rewarding pets. Good luck!

lol thanks for ur help. i really do think i have a better shot at getting chickens now. i didnt no that only males are noisy. that factor probably increased my chances by 90% thanks

And contrary to popular belief, they do not attract vermin so long as you keep their food in a metal container like a metal dustbin.

And they don't smell if you clean them out often enough, which is only every week or two.

Plus the eggs taste sooo much better than the ones you get at the store.

I went through this with my family, and I still got chickens. Just don't give up lol.

PS By my calculations it costs about 4p (8 cents ish, give or take due to local feed prices) per chicken per day for feed and bedding.

OR as a last resort, you can just go ahead and buy your chicks, set up a brooder, and then tell everybody that is necessary. And after they see the little chicks running around peeping, they will all want to take credit for such a neat idea. And to think everyone in my family thought I was nuts!!

I ended up with a lost chicken that apparently wandered or someone dropped her off. No one's claimed her and I convinced my room mate by noting how "economically healthy" it is to have even just a couple of hens for the personal supply of eggs. Between the cost of eggs at the supermarket, bird flu, and the deplorable battery cage factory egg farming, it really is economically healthy to have your own supply. Chickens are cheap to feed and easy to clean up after and in turn they provide a basic staple food.

I even got an OK to get another hen

Good luck with your reasoning...which should go well being it is reasonable to keep chickens.
