Hello!

We just welcomed 2 - 10 day old Silkies and 3 - 10 day old Black sexlinks last night. Very excited! So far, the experience has been so fun. My family thinks I'm nuts with 5 baby chicks living in my spare room in a brooder for the next 3 months, but what's new? :)
We are working on getting the chicken coop built now, and I'm excited to be part of this Backyard Chicken community. Happy Holidays!!!

Welcome to BYC and happy holidays to you!

You'll get plenty of eggs with your black sex girls and the silkies are cute. Enjoy your birds and nice to have you here!

Welcome to BYC. I'm glad you decided to join our flock. I used to raise Black Silkies and they were delightful little chickens; sweet, gentle, friendly, and funny. My children made lap pets of them. Black Sex Links are my personal favorite hens; friendly and hardy, egg laying machines. I've raised them for years and they have been my best layers, consistently churning out over 300 eggs per hen per year. Keep a close eye on the relationship between your Silkies and your BSLs are you birds get older. Because Silkies are bantams, they can take a beating from standard sized chickens, and if you see this start happening you need to remove separate them from your BSLs. We had to keep our Silkies in a separate flock from our standard sized breeds for this very reason. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your Silkies and BSLs.

Thank you for the welcome message! I have always loved the silkies. I didn't know much about sexlinks - glad to hear they will be good laying hens. :)

Thank you so much for the info! Great to know as we plan the coop! I really love the Silkies so far. Both of them are really friendly - I have always been a fan of them. I surely will keep in touch and ask questions as they come up. Have a great night!
