hi people hopefully from earth!!!!!

I just became a new member and I'm also a soon 2 b chicken owner!
I have A LOT OF Q'S cause i've never owned a chicken b 4!Please help me out here by answering my following questions!
1)what is the best age to buy a laying chicken?
2)Do hens need a rooster?
3)Do you KNOW of any chicken breeders in nova scotia?

1) I prefer getting mine as day old babies. Then they know you are are friendly toward you.

I would get them as babies also just so you know what they have been eating and stuff like mine. All my girls come running towards me everytime they see me just because I've had them since they were chicks.

Howdy and welcome!!
I like to raise my layers from chicks but that's just because I like them to be tame and come when I call them. If you want them to be already laying anything over 26-30 weeks should work for you.

Some people like roos as they help protect the girls and of course if you're going to be hatching eggs you want them to be fertile so a roo is a good idea. Me, I just like the roos because they tend to be so colorful and the crowing is kinda cool.

I would say if you can get them maybe spring hatched large fowl 4-5 months old you should be able to tell by the comb on the birds the roosters from pullets
generally the roosters have much larger combs and look more male than sissy females
other wise buy under 1 yr olds
many times people will sell yr or older hen, never vuy older than 2 yrs as their laying ability is cut in half by three
So try for under 1 yr and 1 yr.
Many people will sell older hens as they have new chicks coming on in 5-7 months to lay eggs

2)Do hens need a rooster?
(answer definitely NOT
they are a nusience for laying hens as they want to breed and ruin the peace and harmony in hen house
hens lay if no rooster is there.

3)Do you KNOW of any chicken breeders in nova scotia?
