Ok, so this is my first time hatching Quails of any sort...scared to death of them getting shrink wrapped..We just had our first " home grown" chicken chicks hatch we had 9 eggs to start and got 5 out..all 5 are 1 month old!! and well!! I had to help 2 of them only as a last min resort to save them...but im worried about the quail eggs. The one that pipped first, pipped 12 1/2 hours ago...and hasnt really progressed but i can see the beak moving and egg rocking a little every now and again..Im ready to help save them but not untill its the very last resort due to i dont want to put the others in any danger...Im extremely tired but afraid to go to bed just incase i have to help it out. I dont know what to do at this time. Not sure when to help them if needed, and i cant bare the thought of them not making it if i could have helped..ohh its gonna be a long night.
its now 6:28am I have 6 a&m's hatched, I lost 2 that got stuck in the eggs
broke my heart. They were fine and kicking and cheeping etc and the next, it was 2 late. broke my heart. So..i had 16 total to start..and have 8 more to go hopefully I wont loose any more
Update: I have 10 A&M chicks alive!!
One had splay legs (seen below on the left, the before picture ) but I hobbled them so hopefully that lil' chick will do better, I have 4 eggs remaining, that havent done anything, I havent seen any movement or heard cheeping I'll give them some more time, just to make sure but 10 out of 16 isnt bad. I had to step in and help 2 this afternoon (the last 2 that hatched) The membrain started to dry out so when I noticed, I didnt wait (due to the two i lost, i didnt want to risk it) but its a good thing I helped them, the entire membrane looked like leather, on both of them this afternoon but they made it!! I finally went to bed at 11:30am.lol to take a nap before work at 4:30pm..lol and here I am, at 2:26am Im exhausted
