Hi every one im new to the website and new to raising chickens. I decided to start a flock of OEGB's as a hobby and to reduce my stress. I hope to meet people who can advise me and help on my project. Im really excited and very anxious to get involved with the world of poultry. Do any one have any comments on ideal poultry and cackle hatchery? Thanks and feel free to ask anything! :D

You are picking a great breed to work with. If you just want birds for 'fun', either hatchery should be fine. If you are interested in showing you should try to get stock from a breeder/show person. Enjoy your birds when you get them.

Thanks for the welcoming everyone dont know how to use the website yet but i will learn soon. Im from texas redsox thanks for the welcome. Sour land, the thing is there are n nearby breeders, my only choice is a hatchery maybe i could breed show quality from hatcheries, do you think so? Kevin 565 thanks for welcome! WHAT IS THE PROTOCOL HERE? Should i answer individually or is this fine!

Go to the Social section of the forum. Click on "Where am I? Where are you!". Look for the Texas thread. It's a really active group. Someone there might help you find some local birds. Good luck. Also, try to find a chicken show in your area - folks generally have birds for sale at the shows.

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan :D

Very difficult to raise great quality birds from most hatcheries - they just are not selective enough with their breeding stock,as they have to produce large numbers of birds. Surf around the site, you will get a feel for it quickly.

Oh so sad for me i already ordered 50, 10 diff colors from ideal poultry and the same from cackle hatchery. Maybe in the future if I select the best and keep breeding could get some decent quality. Well, will see what happens they are cominng in a couple of weeks
