The majority of broody hens do their job just fine. It is all instinct, no experience needed. Do not be concerned about egg turning.

Broody hens usually get off the nest only once a day.. as a result they make the biggest chicken poops you ever saw and they smell horrible. This is normal but the smell is quite... memorable.

So many do this, but I strongly advise against putting food and water by her nest. This is completely unnecessary, in fact can cause problems if it attracts pests or brings the other chickens around to her nest and making a mess of things.

All you need to do is make sure no other hen is bothering her while on nest, she is going back to the same nest- if there is a row of nests and you let eggs collect in these, she may accidentally go back to the wrong nest. Candle the eggs at day 7, just to verify the eggs are fertile. If none of them are fertile, replace them with a fresh batch immediately.

That's it, hope it all goes smoothly for you and it is very charming to see a mother hen with babies.
