I'm a newby! Have horse and chicken question...

I would just make sure that your chickens and horses are on a regular deworming schedule.

We have had our ponies get into the coop. And two horses got to a bag of Layena before I could unload the truck. Buggers at 1/3 of the bag. No one laid an egg though. LOL All was fine, but I wouldn't suggest feeding scratch, chick feed, or laying pellets to horses.

Our chickens free range and often try to share the horse's meals with them. Chickens LOVE sweet feed. Silly birds.

Yes - mine do that. My chickens are next to the stable and have to out to the field past the horse. They get on well and no problem with diseases. The horse does sometimes chase them if she is bored and one time she stood on a chickens foot by accident! Silly chicken for getting so close!

Like others have said, keep the horse from eating there food. Make sure you have a good lock and maybe a lock on the chicken cage. If there is something a horse want in the cage they will get it.

My chickens free range and love to go see the horses. I was freaked out at first but they get along well. They will even play tag.

If you feed you horse grain make sure the lid is on well. I made the mistake and 2 of my chicken got into the grain and ate till the crop was HUGE.

Took the words right out of my mouth! I've had free range chickens & horses for years. Had one batch of hens that preferred to lay their eggs in the straw & hay instead of nesting boxes. The coop & stalls are in the same barn in winter and have never had any disease problem and we can have some pretty long winters here!

My brother had horses and chickens. The chickens loved to follow the horses around and scratch in the manure. Other from that no problems. The horses ignored the birds.
