I just wanted to whine a little bit about the male to female ratio on the chicks I just hatched. Almost all of the chicks that I wanted to keep are - you guessed it - males. I hatched 6 serama chicks - 5 are male. Out of the 14 silver & gold laced orpingtons - all but 2 are male. I only managed to hatch 1 mottled Orpington and 1 partridge - both males. I did get a few female silkies, but those were for my god daughters to show next spring for 4H.

I was so confident that I'd have a decent amount of pullets, I could just feel it! I was obviously wrong. :lau

I already have a rooster, so I'll be finding homes for a LOT of cockerels in the next few weeks.

Do I hear "keg party"? j/k

It's always a gamble with the hatching. Too bad you didn't get more girls Tooshay. Maybe next time?

Haha! With 39 chicks in the house it feels like there’s a 24/7 keg party going on.

Next time I think I'll psych myself out by having the mindset that I'll hatch another batch of all boys. Then I'll hatch mostly pullets. ;)

I've got silkied ameraucana chicks coming in a month, so I probably won't hatch anything else this spring, but maybe in the fall I can finally hatch some pullets!
