Game cam yes, haven't caught one yet. Mostly they get dumped elsewhere and end up here, because we are close to the water they sniff out. The creek. Had a huge Mastiff I think it was out front, limping, neighborhood dogs after it (who should not have been running loose). Finally tricked it into coming in the yard and I circled around it and closed the gate, a Friday late afternoon - no pick up. Feed, water, rest and he started feeling better. Called the pound Monday morning they came out and I walked the dog to the truck, like no big deal for him- hopped right in. Our pound now tries to place the strays and fosters them out to give them longer. But that Big teddy bear got placed right away after being vet checked and fixed and before I could even get it back to foster it. It went to a home with kids.
Ya, that's nice when you turn them in they give you their number assigned to them and you can check on what's happening with it. Like that.
The only ones I foster are the ones that come to me. I really shouldn't foster them. Getting old and any of the big ones could knock me down in less than a minute just walking past me. And the young are a lot of work. But I figure they were sent my way for a reason and its up to me to figure what that is. When I foster, I set the rules, they dont leave until they have had basic training like the Lab Pup and some rescue places don't like that. Well Tuff. On the Lab Pup - I made the new owner wait 2 extra weeks for that pup, age wise. But when she did get him, she was glad she waited for him. I gave them detailed instructions on what training he had had and his schedule that I set up for normal working hours, before they even got the dog. He fit right in, immediately. Trained with a schedule to fit their life.
You just can't keep them all that come though. There's way to many and I can't afford to feed the really big ones along with my own. Most of them are good dogs that just need a little training. Wish people would fix their animals, so they'd stay home and not go on the hunt. Most all of them are males at breeding seasons.
Ok, I think I have gotten my Ranting out of my system and am pretty much ready for the next batch to start coming through the area in a few weeks.
