I'm about to give up on chickens

Pics
Can we get a better picture of the lamps in context? I'm worried that there is nothing protecting the red lamp that we can see part of. If a chicken freaks and hits that it might explode. I am assuming it is really well secured such that it can not fall shy of a tree landing on the coop.

This might not be the right place to post this but I swear the chicken raising gods have it out for me......I came home today at 430PM PDT and found Bandit (DOB 5/21/21) dead in the coop....little back story, we live in Central BC and the weather suddenly turned cold a few days ago...not terribly but the lowest was -7°C. We relocated our tractor coop to a wind protected corner of the yard Saturday afternoon and replaced the shavings one last time before "winter". This morning my husband opened the coop door and put the water in the run, both my girls were fine....by 430......Bandit was dead and stiff....What am I missing??? This is the 2nd chicken to turn up dead suddenly since we started in April...
this has often happend to me, plenty of my hens and chicks have passed away . Probaly 5 or more of mine have died. i even had a newborn baby chick die because of early hatching. dont worry,it happens all the time. it is not your fault. im so sorry for the loss of your hen!!!!!

The white light needs to be turned off at night so your birds can sleep. As has been mentioned here several times, your birds do not need a heat source. They need to be kept DRY and out of the wind. Their feathers do the rest. Remember, they are birds. Millions of birds all over the world, in trees outside, survive just fine without heaters, lights or warmers of any kind, in all kinds of weather. God through nature has provided everything they need, called feathers. Turn off the lamps. They'll do fine!

So far I haven't used the red lamp, it's just there as an "in case" as we have had temps of -30-40°C for extended periods the last few winters and I want to be prepared. The white light is only on during "daytime" to try and promote egg laying as we haven't had any yet (DOB 5/21/21)

Right. The red lamp will keep them comfortable at night and still allow them to sleep. Make sure the red is not a Teflon coating.
