I'm addicted ;)

She likes her 4 4.5 week olds friends (mix of glw, blue langshan, partridge) but not so much the WPR. Notice I keep saying she. but when she meets my EE she is in for it! I tried finding that EE a home but no one would take her cause she is a brat. I slowly introduced the rescue bantam to her last year and only had 1 time that she picked at her and I had to separate for a week. I put them in same area but fenced off for 2 weeks before face to face.

Anyway this site is awesome .... I've never read about another topic more than chickens! I'm addicted!:love thank u for all the responses!

I have 50 acres so I can have roosters but feel I may end up with too many. Here's praying for a girl lol! I am not sure of the age then because they obviously didn't tell me the truth. Also She does not like the WPR too much.

Do roosters fight at night in the coop? I have a huge 16x16 coop so I can separate. But would rather just separate during the day. I have hawks and eagles because we hay the field. so my runs are covered. And can separate during day easily.
No, roosters will not fight at night, but I would strongly suggest either keeping only one rooster or else adding some more hens to the flock. The recommended ratio of roosters to hens is 1 rooster for every 10 hens. As they mature, too many roosters will become very hard physically on your hens; Over-breeding them, biting and plucking the feathers from their necks and backs, battering them, and potentially, seriously injuring them. The only reason you really need a rooster is to fertilize eggs for hatching, and 1 rooster can easily handle 10-15 hens in this regard. I currently have 25 hens and no roosters in my flock, and I get loads of eggs without all the aggression, fighting, biting and feather plucking, crowing in the middle of the night, feeding of non-productive mouths, drop off in egg production, and over-breeding and battering of hens that goes along with having roosters (especially too many). My hens are stress free and enjoying life without a rooster around. :o)
